MAA Medicare is a charitable organization that offers highly subsidised dialysis treatment to patients who are suffering from End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), commonly known as kidney failure.
MAA Medicare began operating its first dialysis centre at Jalan Ipoh in 1994. It was a humble, small shop lot equipped with just 7 machines and cared for 20 patients.
To date, all patients are cared for with the assistance of 9 visiting nephrologists and 119 medical and support staff. They provide patients with medical care and expertise that includes counselling services, dietary and nutritional advice, health checks and blood tests. Patients have access to a total of 200 dialysis machines, which they depend upon three times a week, for up to 4 hours per session.
Besides keeping patients alive through haemodialysis treatment, care and assistance is extended to patients’ families and children via The Patient Welfare Fund and Kids@Medicare programme. Both of these programmes provide patients from the lower income brackets and their school going children with additional subsidies, medical assistance, school supplies, enriching activities and rewards. Care by MAA Medicare transcends age, gender, culture, religion and social standing.
Not affiliated with any political, religious, governmental or private groups, MAA Medicare depends on individual and corporate support as its source of funds. Besides donations received, numerous fundraising events are organised to ensure a steady stream of financial aid for MAA Medicare to effectively and continually provide support and charitable medical care to underprivileged Malaysians.
